HOME SAFETY TASKS TO SCHEDULE WITH THE TIME CHANGE
Now that we’ve changed the clocks back an hour, it’s the perfect time to schedule some home safety tasks. Home safety specialists have long advocated testing your smoke detectors and changing their batteries twice a year. Why not expand this to do list to other home safety items and tackle them all at once?
Here’s a list to get started:
- Test your smoke detectors. Even if your detectors are hard-wired into the house, make sure the battery back-ups are working and replace them with new batteries.
- Test your carbon monoxide detectors and make sure the batteries are working. Keep track of when you purchased your CO detectors, as they need to be replaced periodically.
- Check the fire extinguishers to make sure they’re not expired.
- Make sure you have working flashlights and spare batteries. It’s a good idea to have at least one flashlight on each floor of your home.
- Review a fire safety exit plan with your household.
- Check your home first aid kit and replenish any missing items.
- Check your emergency 3-day supply kit and replenish any missing items.
